HBA - Tips for Succeeding in Turbulent Times

The evening started off with a REAL story by one our star volunteers, Tina Doede. Tina shared her heartfelt thoughts how she has benefited from her involvement in the HBA and recommends “think about where you want to go next and how HBA can help.”

The “Navigating the Corporate Landscape in Challenging Times” program was kicked-off by our wonderful moderator Ginger L. Graham, president and CEO of Two Trees Consulting.

Our star panel included:
William N. Anderson, VP, Sales & Marketing, Immunology, Genentech
Gail J. Maderis, President & CEO, BayBio
Mary Stutts, Sr. VP, Head of Corporate Relations, Elan

The dynamic and well-rounded panel shared their realistic and practical wisdom how best to succeed during these turbulent times.

• Be flexible
• It isn’t personal
• Take the time to reevaluate your skill-set and yourself
• Feedback is important – take it and be open and honest with yourself
• Take action – don’t be a victim – you always have a choice
• Be purposeful and plan your career – What does success look like to you?
• If you don’t like your job, make the job more interesting and enjoyable
• If you don’t like someone, find out what makes them tick, sit down and talk
• Every opportunity opens a door to something else
• Network, network, network – walk the halls and reach out to people
• Be nice
• Sometimes it is just time to move on
• If things look bleak, climb a mountain or get a pedicure

Ginger shared a few of the panel secrets too! Guess who?
• Staged a first grade sit-out and got the playground rules changed
• Did PR for the Miss Universe pageant
• Was in a Dow TV commercial and got paid

At the event, we asked you to fill-out a feedback form to be put in the drawing for a signed copy of Mary Stutts' book The Missing Mentor.
