Question for Joel: Administrative jobs in healthcare are going to disappear, what should the people doing those jobs do now?
There is a race on in the healthcare industry to radically change and improve the way we do so many of the tasks that people do now. For example: some providers are starting to use kiosks to register patients because it improves the accuracy of data collection and enhances the efficiency of the process. Some might say it's impersonal but it seems more and more that people want "on demand service" because it is faster and easier to it themselves.
Some within the industry are realizing that their skills might be becoming obsolete and consequently, resist adopting the new technology. There is another group that simply don't make the time to look for better ways to do things and learn because they don't have to.
What advice would you give someone who is doing a job today that could become obsolete within the next few years? Also what advice would you give managers of people that are in vulnerable positions?
