A good support network makes a difference....

Based on my experience as an executive coach, the people with a good support network do better than those without one.

Your network should include a supervisor and someone else that you trust to share your plans with such as a mentor, colleague or friend. If you don’t have someone in your life that can serve as your coach or they’re not able to invest their time helping you, consider investing in yourself and hire someone who can. Professional coaches are a good investment, especially in a competitive economy, if you’re clear about what you want to achieve and are ready to do the work.

Once you've established your support network, be sure to let them in on your plan. Tell them when you plan to take action and what you intend to accomplish. Be upfront about any concerns you have and keep the communication lines open. If you encounter difficulties while executing your plan, your support network will provide objective advice or a fresh perspective to get you back on track. Then, when you finally meet your goal, be sure to share the good news… along with your thanks for their help.
