So why E-Learning...

I know some of you out there think that I must be crazy to be so persistent pursuing the e-learning path.  Well let me help you understand.  While I was working in audit and consulting in the early 90's for a large healthcare system, I kept noticing the same issues.  I left audit to take a field job - my thinking was that I needed to get into the field to find out what was really going on.  What I experienced was shocking.  The days seemed to just run together.  There simply wasn't enough time in the day to get everything done.  I was working as a Controller then and if it wasn't month end, it was budget time and if it wasn't budget time, there was an audit.  Let alone all the projects.  It just didn't stop.  I just kept getting stretched thinner and thinner.  I left the company.

Three years later, I started the RUSH GROUP.  After about a year of consulting on my own, I realized that things hadn't changed. I still saw the same problems over and over.  I considered outsourcing systems, but realized that without control of the Patient Accounting System my reports may not be meaningful.  Garbage in - Garbage out!  (Check out Understanding your Reports) That was about the time that the technology to support web-based training was just emerging.  I decided to start teaching as a way of creating more awareness of how staff in the business office impact the financial staff's ability to properly report the numbers.  That's why all the initial courses focus on the Patient Accounting System and Financial Reporting.  Months after I launched the initial PAC courses, the accounting debacle at HealthSouth was revealed. I had been trying to explain the importance of the contractual write-offs to the editor of Outpatinet Surgery Center magazine.  Until that point, they didn't have much interest or maybe simply didn't understand what I was trying to say.  I published an article which is available on the RUSH GROUP site under news.  (HealthSouth Debacle -  What you should learn).  Whether your center is publicly traded or not accounting for the numbers correctly is extremely important and it is a team effort!
