Counting calories the easy way....
So what did you find out? Could you stand to lose a few pounds?
I am actually on the lower end of the BMI range for my height but I could stand to lose about 5 pounds. Like Scott, I use my clothes as a gage to tell me when I need to cut back or step up my workouts. Lately some of my clothes have been fitting a little tight in the hips and thighs.
When I was in my early 20's I was a diligent label reader and calorie counter. In all honesty I was a little obsessed with watching my weight. Luckily I thought of food as fuel and constantly thought about what my body needed in terms of nutrients and made those things a priority in my diet. I rarely indulged and probably wasn't eating enough.
I am still very mindful of what I eat and how much so that I get the right things, but now I allow myself treats and sometimes a few too many. I have a sweet tooth. Another issue is that I'm getting older and my body is changing. Unfortunately with age most people need to consume fewer calories.
So I set a goal to lose the 5 lbs before it becomes a problem and more importantly, to learn how to eat for the next stage of my life. Fortunately, I know a great dietician who is an avid calorie counter, in fantastic shape and slightly older than me. I'll share what I learn from her as I go.
In the mean time, I encourage you to download the calorie counter on google. It's free, convenient and seems to be easy to use.
Our next task on this journey is to track our actual diets for one week to learn the truth about what we are eating and how much.
It's only for one week. So in the spirit of our path to fitness...Let's just do it!
